The Green-Eyed Elf is a female wood elf, and a member of the trio of elven elders, along with Lorengorm and the Leaf-Horned Elf, that led a small tribe of elves and other faeries living in the Grove south of Spiderwick Estate.

She is depicted in the Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide and makes her first appearance in The Spiderwick Chronicles in Lucinda's Secret.

Description[]

Femalewoodelf

The Green-Eyed Elf, as depicted in the Field Guide.

Appearance[]

The Green-Eyed Elf has the appearance of a beautiful lithe young woman; with pale blonde hair, apple-green eyes for which she is named (her real name never being revealed), and mayfly-like wings. She is about the height of Mallory.

Despite her youthful appearance, she is an elven elder and is several hundred years old (being approximately 400 at the time she met Arthur Spiderwick.)

Character[]

As one of her tribe's leaders, the Green-Eyed Elf maintains a regal and dignified air; commanding the respect of "lesser" faeries like Thimbletack.

Much like her fellow elders, she held an antagonistic view towards humankind and was concerned with the creation of the Field Guide; fearing what would happen if knowledge of theirs and other faeries' vulnerabilities and weaknesses being exposed by the book. Though somewhat cold, she appears to be more reasonable and diplomatic than Lorengorm or the Leaf-Horned Elf.

The Spiderwick Chronicles[]

Whilst creating the Guide, Arthur Spiderwick encountered the Elven tribe, including the Green-Eyed Elf, in a Grove south of his family estate. The Guide became a cause for concern among the elven leaders. When Arthur falsely promised to destroy the book, even attempting to deceive them with faked evidence, the elves decided to imprison Arthur within their realm.

Lucinda's Secret[]

The Green-Eyed Elf and the other elders first appear in Lucinda's Secret, when the Grace children enter their realm. The Elves immediately demand the book be surrendered to them, lest they be trapped in Faerie. The Elves even attempt to hold Jared hostage, ransoming him in exchange for the book; with Jared using his wits to escape.

The Wrath of Mulgarath[]

The Green-Eyed Elf appears again in the Wrath of Mulgarath. Jared encounters her alone when he returns to the Elves' territory to seek out Arthur. The Green-Eyed Elf is persuaded to allow Jared to meet with Arthur, though only briefly.

After Mulgarath's defeat, the Grace family and Lucinda Spiderwick visit the Grove at the Elves' invitation. The Elves applaud the Grace family for slaying the ogre, and the Green-Eyed Elf declares that they have proven that knowledge of the faeries can be safe in human hands and thus allows them to keep the Guide.

Behind the Scenes[]

Orla

Izabella Miko in makeup as Orla (the Green-Eyed Elf)

  • It was a sketch of the Green-Eyed Elf done by Tony DiTerlizzi in 1998 that motivated Tony to seriously consider creating Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide, according to the sketchbook included in the Completely Fantastical Edition
  • The Green-Eyed Elf would have appeared in a scene taking place in the Elven Grove in the 2008 film adaptation, played by actress Izabella Miko and given the name Orla. However, the scene was ultimately cut from the final product.[1]
